The first system will be operational in just over 33 days! Is this then the salvation of our oceans?

Mankind has already manufactured more than 8 billion tons of plastic and a large part of it has landed in the oceans. The big question is of course: how do we get rid of that again? The Dutchman Boyan Slat thinks he has the answer and is determined to strip the oceans of plastic in a relatively short time. And with the help of a huge floating system that serves as a kind of artificial coastline that collects and holds plastic. With the system, according to Slat, it should be possible to dispose of 50% of the plastic soup – a huge collection of plastic in the Pacific – within five years.
